Rules for people bathing or swimming in the Baltic Sea
Anybody who is on holiday in this area will probably go swimming. The exceedingly good quality of the Baltic Sea water attracts many visitors every year. Most beaches are suitable for children, since the water very slowly deepens.
To go swimming, to dive, to do surfing and sailing or just to cavort in the shallow water - all that is possible here. People should also enjoy various sporting activities such as Beach volleyball, Frisbee, jogging along the beach and many more.
Even in the cold season visitors do not have to forgo bathing or swimming. The doors to the swimming pools, water parks and saunas are always open. Though the toughest are welcome to join any group of people being fond of taking a bath in the ice-cold water of the Baltic Sea.
Some rules to be taken seriously
- Never swim with a full or completely empty stomach.
After eating digestion has priority. So not until two hours after the meal, you should jump into the water. A further pleasant result is that all movements become easier and the respiratory rhythm is not disturbed.
- Cool off before you go swimming.
First take a shower (if possible) and let your body slowly get used to the cold water. Those who have circulatory problems and low blood pressure should cool off in the following order: wrists, forearms, upper arms, shoulders, heart area.
- Leave the water immediately when you are cold, take off your wet clothes and dry yourself off.
- Do not overestimate your strength and your skills!
The force of the Baltic Sea waves and currents are often underestimated. Never swim long distances alone! Even the best-trained body can falter in between. Waterways, breakwaters or piers are no swimming and bathing zones. Non-swimmers should only be chest-high in the water.
- Leave the water immediately during a thunderstorm!
Thunder and lightning may be full of atmosphere, but staying in the water now is life-threatening.
- Never call for help if you are not in danger!
For beach visitors and bathers it should additionally be mentioned that the beach rules should be observed on all beaches along the Baltic coast.
Entering the dunes is strictly prohibited for reasons of coastal protection. Do not leave waste packaging on the beach, so you will protect yourself and others from injury for example from glass or metal residues.
