The Blue Flag (formerly the European Blue Flag) is a global award that can be bestowed to holiday resorts. It assesses the quality of one or more sections of the beach. This environmental label is awarded for one year each. The award made by an independent environmental foundation indicates that the resort meets certain requirements for a prudent environmental management.
